About CHR

CHR Media Collective is a non-profit media collective based in Corpus Christi, Texas. As a collective, we believe strongly in decentralization, participatory democracy, and experimentation. This means that no one is “in charge,” that we try to create opportunities for meaningful decision-making through hands-on—rather than representative—processes, and that we actively test and reevaluate our projects and organizational structure.

Since our founding in 2005, we have pursued various media projects and publishing efforts, some of which are featured on this site. As a collective, our three primary goals are:

  • To provide local writers and artists with affordable, viable ways to publish their work.
  • To increase community exposure to democratic and independent media efforts.
  • And to create sustainable media projects.

In order to reach these goals, the members of CHR propose the following objectives: We seek to

  1. ...encourage aspiring or independent writers and artists to share their works with their communities; to show others what they've done, so to speak.
  2. ...establish a solid, grassroots publishing effort in South Texas.
  3. ...promote and discuss local authors and their publications, as well as our own writers and their publications.
  4. ...fight and resist censorship in our culture.
  5. ...fight racism, classism, xenophobia, and sexism in our culture.
  6. ...fight corporatism in our culture.
  7. ...help the collective grow in both its size and the scope of its concerns.

It is also one of our hopes that we contribute positively to, as well as develop meaningful relationships with, already-extant activist efforts in South Texas.

As CHR Media grows in membership, these stated purposes and objectives are subject to revision, to be determined by a unanimous consensus of our collective's core members.
